Graceful Spirit Reiki Light Notes

Hello... I am Sherry, formally Sharon Hallet Peirce Corbin (shpc).
In many ways we are defined by what we do.

I am a graduate of Kings Park State Hospital School of Nursing, in New York.  I hold a Master of Science Degree in Medical-Surgical Nursing from the University of Maryland.  After 34 years I retired as Professor of Nursing at Harford Community College.

I established One on One Computer Education in 1983 with a trusty Apple IIe computer.  The Apple had a single "A" prompt with one floppy drive.  It had one monitor for text and another for graphics.  No mouse, no windows, no e-mail, no world wide web in those days.  I soon began to think of the computer as a fast moving train ... simply jump on the train when you need to learn to do a task, then jump right off again to practice the new task.

I am the author of the computer tutorials "Patient Encounters in Medical-Surgical Nursing" published by J.B. Lippincott, beginning in 1985.   Each of the 25 "Patient Encounters" is named after a beloved pet...the first was Casey, a loyal German shepherd ("Mr. Casey" is a "Gentleman with Renal Colic".)  In 1975 I developed the conceptual framework for the Harford Community College Associate Degree Nursing Program.  The conceptual framework is based on patient needs for comfort and safety, growth and development, interpersonal relationships, and physiological interactions.  I hold the copyright for "Curriculum Manager" published in 1993 by HealthCare Productions, Inc., no longer in publication.  Curriculum Manager is a computer program for nursing faculty offering a "backdoor approach" to curriculum analysis. It serves also as a test generation program.  I've given many workshops to nursing faculty throughout the country related to test question construction based on the nursing process, and to integrating computer technology into teaching.

I developed Light Notes, designed to give a clear and concise communication on a single sheet of paper.  A Light Note may be a lesson or a set of instructions for the health care practitioner to share with clients.

I created RainLight (rainlight.com) to make independent study classes available to my nursing students, and also with web pages to share the graceful spirit of poetry, prayers, meditations, and rainbows with anyone who visits ... another full and beautiful dimension of our lives.

After retiring and moving to the north woods in 2003 I began serving as a hospice volunteer.  Much older now, I enjoy knitting, t'ai chi chih practice, our loving pets, and just being near trees and moving water.  Our greatest joy is being in the company of five lovely grandchildren.

Enough of "I am" ... who are you?
